The UNHCR Regional Representation is based in Canberra, and is responsible for the promotion and protection of refugee rights in the region which includes Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
We currently undertook a complete redesign of the UNHCR Canberra website. UNHCR Canberra is the regional representative responsible for the promotion and protection of refugee rights in the Asia Pacific region, which represents 16 nations.
The UNHCR website has to cater for a wide range of users throughout this region including people currently in detention and others in isolated island nations.
This introduced strict limitations as the devices available to these users can be running legacy software, connected through low- bandwidth cellular towers and regularly experiencing intermittent access. These restrictions have required creative solutions to ensure accessibility to users in these situations, while still maintaining a clean and modern web presence.
